Karin Lukas has been invited by the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions and the German Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers as keynote speaker at the online High-Level Meeting on the Council of Europe Recommendation on the development and strengthening of effective, pluralist and independent NHRIs, taking place on 26 April 2021 ( 10-13.15h CET).
Join the online event marking the 60th anniversary of the 1961 European Social Charter! Expert speakers will focus on ‘taking stock’ of the Charter and our colleague Karin Lukas, President of the ECSR and Head of Program Line Human Rights in Development Cooperation and Business at LBI-GMR, will speak on “The European Social Charter and Equality”.
This online seminar, which forms part of a series of five co-funded by the European Commission on enhancing cross-border mutual legal assistance and recognition of decisions within the context of detention, will focus on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), ECtHR and CJEU case law in dealing with detention conditions and the application of mutual legal assistance instruments.
On 12 January 2021 the Austrian Ombudsman Board, in cooperation with the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) will host an exchange to shine a light on human rights protection in Austria in times of Covid-19 and to discuss how to strengthen the independence of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs). The event will be held from 3.00–4.30 pm and the speeches will be broadcast via livestream and through pre-recorded video messages from the premises of the Austrian Ombudsman Board.
On December 7th, the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights is participating in a second online workshop of the South-East European NPM Network on ‘Strengthening the prevention of torture in South-East Europe: Monitoring safeguards in the first hours of police custody’. The event is hosted once more by the Croatian Ombudsman, in cooperation with the Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights and the Association for the Prevention of Torture and with the support of the Council of Europe European NPM Forum.
