As contribution to the National Action Plan on Violence against Women, polis – The Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools set up a project with educational measures on “Violence against Women” from February 2014 to May 2015. Heartpiece was the development of a “set of materials” containing seven publications on gender-based violence and girls’ and women’s rights. The publications describe the causes of violence, suggest possible solutions and provide exercises and methodological inputs. Teachers and multipliers could order the set of materials for free.
Additionally, all new teaching ideas and didactic examples from the set of materials were put into the online database of the website, which provides teaching suggestions, lesson plans and practical ideas for projects in the classroom: www.politik-lernen.at/praxisboerse
In March 2015, a new online-module for teachers and multipliers on “Violence against women and girls” was published as “topic of the month” on the Citizenship Education Portal.
Furthermore four workshops for teachers and multipliers were carried out:
- Sustainable prevention of violence in schools and youth work
- BoysWork in schools
- Violence against girls and women with disabilities in schools and within the context of extra-curricular activities
- Presentation of the set of materials „Protection of women against violence” to teachers in training
Three new headwords for the Encyclopedia on Politics for Young People were edited: “Forced marriage”, “Gender-based violence” and “Violence 2.0/Cyber-violence”: www.politik-lexikon.at
