The project aimed at strengthening the capacity of Montenegro for protection of personal data and implementation of the data protection legislation.
One component of the project dealt with the harmonization of the legislation with the EU acquis. Another component aimed to support the independent Data Protection Supervisory Authority, established shortly before project start, with specific training for the set-up of the authority. Training sessions for persons responsible for data protection in the ministries, other relevant institutions and in the private sector were also part of the project.
The BIM implemented this project as leading institution together with the Montenegrin partners (Ministry of the Interior and Data Protection Authority) in cooperation with the Austrian Data Protection Commission (DSK) and in a consortium with the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia.
The Kick-Off Meeting has been held in Podgorica from 7th – 8th February 2011.
In July 2011, data protection experts from Montenegro came to Vienna for a Twinning Study Visit.
On 28th June 2012 the final event of the Twinning project was held in Podgorica.
