Combating Domestic Violence - Closing Event of the Twinning Project in Azerbaijan

In January 2022 the Twinning project in Azerbaijan dealing with capacity building of state institutions and local monitoring groups will end. The project was implemented in a multinational cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU member states Lithuania and Austria, represented by LBI-GMR, and started in September 2020. The closing event took place on 12 January 2022 - the Austrian project partners were connected online. Austrian Ambassador Alexander Bayerl, Lithuanian Ambassador Egidijus Navikas, Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation Peter Michalko and Azerbaijani Deputy Chairperson of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Affairs, Sadagat Gahramanova ceremonially opened the event.

25 October: European Day of Justice

On 25 October, the member states of the European Union celebrate the European Day of Justice to bring justice closer to citizens and to inform citizens about their rights. However, the EU is also committed to improve legal protection and support for persons concerned outside the borders of the European Union, e.g. in Azerbaijan. Since 2020, the Ludwig Boltzmann of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) has been working with Azerbaijani and Lithuanian partners to improve legal protection and to strengthen the support for victims of domestic violence in Azerbaijan.

Kick-Off Meeting: AZERBAIJAN: Strengthening the capacity of State bodies and local level referral mechanisms to provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence in Azerbaijan (Twinning)

The kick-off meeting of the EU-funded Twinning project entitled “Strengthening the capacity of the State Bodies and local level referral mechanisms to provide safety and support to the victims of domestic violence” was held remotely on March 29, 2021. More than 60 experts from the participating countries Azerbaijan, Lithuania and Austria were informed about the national challenges in the field of domestic violence and the goals of the project.

The EU adopted the AAP 2016 (Annual Action Programme 2016), a plan that focuses on assisting Azerbaijan’s economic, financial and judicial governance, as well as increasing the country’s legal protection, safety and support of women and victims of domestic violence through an improvement in the capacity of local referral mechanisms and State bodies.
