Bürgerin Donau – City, Nature, Rights
Saturday, October 3, 2026, 1:30 PM
Vienna Design Week Festival Headquarters; Hietzinger Kai 101, 1130 Vienna
What does it mean to recognize non-human actors as equal partners in shaping our city?
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, our colleague Camilla Haake, head of the “Sustainability, Development, Business, Social” research group, will participate in a discussion on “the rights of urban nature.” The talk will explore the question of what rights urban nature might have and what it would mean to view the Danube not only as a river but as a citizen of the city of Vienna.
Our colleague is participating in the discussion alongside Katja Schechtner and Alex Putzer (Citizen Nature), Sithara Pathirana (Vienna Climate Biennale), and Wolfgang Gruel (Stuttgart Media University).
The event will take place during Vienna Design Week as part of “Donauraum,” a group of projects that explore the river that defines Vienna.
