Fair Trials Europe, in collaboration with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights, the European Institute of Public Administration (Luxembourg), the Centre for European Constitutional Law (Greece), and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (Ireland), will host a webinar on February 18, 2021 on “Alternatives to the European Arrest Warrant and Pretrial Detention in EU Cross-Border Proceedings: Practical Insights and Perspectives.” The event is part of the EU project “EAW-ALT: Alternative measures to avoid disproportionate use of the European Arrest Warrant and pre-trial detention”.

After a presentation of the main findings of our research, this webinar will bring together practitioners to discuss resistance to the use of alternatives to the European Arrest Warrant for prosecution. In a second panel, we will turn to the broader issue of the continued excessive use of pre-trial detention in cross-border proceedings.

Nora Katona, Senior Researcher at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights, will moderate the second part of the event.
