Camilla Haake discusses rights of nature and new perspectives on the climate crisis
From 20 to 23 May 2026, the European Tolerance Talks will take place in Fresach. Under the theme “Resistance and Responsibility”, experts from research, business and civil society will come together to discuss the societal impacts of climate change, current violent conflicts, and economic and social inequality. Through lectures, panels and discussions, the event explores possible courses of action for societies facing these challenges.
Camilla Haake, Head of the Programme Line on Sustainability, Development, Economy and Social Affairs at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights, will participate in the panel discussion “Uprising of the Rivers / Rebellion of the Forests – Why We Must Move Beyond an Anthropocentric Worldview”. Together with philosophers, environmental lawyers and sustainability researchers, she will examine whether and how subjective rights of nature—analogous to human rights—could help address global crises such as climate change more effectively. The discussion focuses on which new legal, ethical and societal perspectives are needed to better protect ecosystems and strengthen long-term resilience.
The European Tolerance Talks are organised annually by Denk.Raum Fresach in cooperation with the Alpen-Adria University. Registration is required.
