The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights, the Austrian League for Human Rights, Amnesty International Austria, the University of Vienna, and the Vienna School of International Studies, with the kind support of the City of Vienna, cordially invite you to the Human Rights Talk.

Whether it concerns working conditions, environmental impacts, or access to safe products, business operations are inextricably linked to the protection of human rights. In a volatile global economy, complex supply chains and corporate structures pose significant challenges to the effective protection of these rights. With the “Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive” (CSDDD), the EU sought for the first time to establish a binding framework for corporate responsibility regarding human rights and the environment. Yet barely in force, the CSDDD is already set to be watered down.

What consequences will the changes to the CSDDD proposed by the EU trilogue – such as limiting its scope to particularly large companies – have for the protection of human rights and the environment? Does this weakening actually promote competitiveness, or does it jeopardize the EU as a business location? And above all: How can companies be empowered to effectively design their human rights and environmental measures? A high-profile panel will use these questions as a starting point to discuss key challenges and perspectives regarding corporate responsibility for human rights.
