Migration and Vulnerabilities: Joint Seminar between Kyoto University and the University of Vienna

The joint symposium will focus on refugee movements caused by the effects of climate change, regional approaches to migration, and the protection of minorities.
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, experts will discuss the topic “Migration and Vulnerabilities” at Kyoto University in Japan. This event was organized by the University of Vienna and Kyoto University. It takes place within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two universities.
The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights will be represented on site by Scientific Director Michael Lysander Fremuth and our colleagues Dorit Aschauer and Andreas Sauermoser (Programme Line General Human Rights Issues) as well as Camilla Haake (Head of the Programme Line Sustainability, Development, Business, Social). They will deliver presentations and participate in discussions across four panels on the topics of climate change and migration, regional approaches to migration, minorities among migrants, and the intersection between refugee law and other areas of international law.
