On Tue, 12 January 2021, the Ombudsman Board in cooperation with the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) will host an exchange to shed light on human rights protection in Austria in times of Covid-19 and to discuss how the independence of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) can be strengthened. The event will take place from 15:00-16:30 and the contributions will be broadcast via livestream from the Festsaal of the Volksanwaltschaft or played as video.

In a thematic block on the role of NHRIs in the field of human rights protection, Ombudsmen Bernhard Achitz and Walter Rosenkranz will report on the focus that the Corona pandemic has brought to complaints work. Contributions by Michael Lysander Fremuth, Scientific Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR), and Reinhard Klaushofer, Director of the Austrian Institute for Human Rights (ÖIM), shed light on the topic of human rights protection in times of Covid-19.
