Round Table on protecting the rights of children in the criminal justice system and closed institutions in the Kyrgyz Republic

On Wed, 18 September 2019, a roundtable on “Protection of Children’s Rights in the Criminal Justice System and Closed Institutions” will be held in Bishkek as part of the project “Rule of Law Program in the Kyrgyz Republic – 2nd Phase”. The event is organized by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights in cooperation with the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General’s Office and the public foundation “Children’s Rights Defenders League”.

The event aims to create a platform for discussion on the juvenile justice system in Kyrgyzstan. On the agenda is the protection of the rights of child victims and witnesses of crime, as well as children who break the law.

Speakers at the event will include Manfred Nowak, founder of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) and study director of the “UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty”, and Helmut Sax, LBI-GMR children’s rights expert and study collaborator, on the topic of children as victims and witnesses of crime.
