Human rights due diligence obligations in the telecommunications sector

The project deals with human rights due diligence in the telecommunications sector. It involves supporting A1 Telekom Austria AG (A1) in the operational implementation of internal company structures and processes based on human rights due diligence obligations and will be carried out by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) in collaboration with A1 from March to November 2025.

Research Focus

Using its human rights expertise, the LBI-GMR is supporting A1 in effectively and efficiently implementing fundamental human rights due diligence obligations in the context of the telecommunications sector into internal company structures and processes. Among other things, the researchers are investigating the fundamental human rights due diligence obligations of companies operating in the telecommunications sector and reviewing existing internal company documents, such as A1’s human rights policy, in terms of their comprehensibility and completeness.

Research Method

The LBI-GMR analyses existing documents such as the company’s human rights policy and researches possible good practices in order to develop a comprehensive picture of human rights due diligence in the telecommunications sector. The scientific results will be validated for their practical applicability in a joint workshop.
