Book Presentation and Exchange: SDG 8 – “Decent Work and Economic Growth”
The LBI-GMR participated in the presentation of the new Springer Gabler reference volume on UN Sustainable Development Goal 8. Researcher Stephen Rabenlehner presented the chapter on human rights audits and certifications in global activity chains, co-authored with Camilla Haake.
On 28th May, the Vienna Grand Gallery hosted the presentation of the reference volume on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, “Decent Work and Economic Growth”. Published by Springer Gabler, the volume brings together contributions from academia and practice addressing key questions of decent work, sustainable economic development, and societal transformation. The volume was edited by Nicole Fabisch, René Schmidpeter, Gabriele Schuster, and Andrea Sihn-Weber.
As part of the event organised by “Business Lounge THE TALK & More”, selected authors presented their contributions on current challenges and developments at the intersection of business, sustainability, and human rights. Topics included responsible artificial intelligence, workplace accessibility, the gender pay gap, and sustainable tourism.
Representing the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR), researcher Stephen Rabenlehner presented the chapter “Opportunities and Risks of Audits and Certifications in Ensuring Human Rights Compliance in the Activity Chain”, co-authored with Research Group Leader Camilla Haake. The chapter examines the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and explores the role of so-called “independent third parties” in assessing compliance with human rights standards throughout global activity chains.
Following the presentations, participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the authors at dedicated discussion tables. The event was organised and moderated by Christa Kainz, Ursula Oberhollenzer, and Andrea Sihn-Weber, co-editor of the volume.
