Europe & Central Asia Regional Forum 2022 – Final Recommendations

The Europe & Central Asia Regional Forum 2022 took place from 2-3 May 2022 in Vienna. The Regional Forum aimed to formulate concrete recommendations for the improvement of regional and global systems for the protection of minorities. The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights was involved in this year’s Forum as a regional partner.

The event was a great success with over 180 registered participants, including representatives of states, intergovernmental organisations and, most importantly, a significant number of representatives of minority communities from across the region participating online and at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

The participants contributed to an informative, dynamic and cooperative discussion on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Persons Belonging to National or Ethnic, Religious and Linguistic Minorities. These discussions and the regionally specific recommendations will inform the work of the 15th session of the UN Forum on Minority Issues to be held 1st and 2nd December 2022 and will feed into the thematic work of the UN Special Rapporteur on minorities for his report to the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in March 2023.

The final recommendations of the Regional Forum are available in the download section.

The event was also recorded. You can watch the recordings here on YouTube.
