New Practical Guide: Monitoring places where children are deprived of liberty

On 15 February, Defence for Children International (DCI), leading organisation within the framework of the project Children´s Rights Behind Bars, officially presented their new monitoring guidebook. This innovative tool, to which the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute contributed over the last two years, includes a preventive and child-sensitive approach and is “the very first European Practical Guide dedicated to the monitoring of places of deprivation of liberty for children”, according to DCI. It is available for free in English and in French.

The 166-page document is the outcome of the 2-year, EU-funded project in which 14 partner organisations and 11 high-level international experts on justice and children’s rights brought their specific skills and expertise together, among them Tiphanie Crittin (Senior Researcher on Human Dignity and Public Security at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights) and Helmut Sax (Senior Researcher on Human Dignity and Public Security and Team Leader at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights)
