Newsletter August 2026
During this heatwave, we’re bringing you the latest news from the field of human rights research. As well as details of upcoming events, you can also find out more about two new research projects.
The ongoing heatwaves highlight how strongly climate change is affecting our living and working conditions. People working outdoors, in particular, are facing growing challenges as a result. Our new project “Under Construction” examines weather-related risks for workers in the construction sector and combines legal research with medical and climate science perspectives. At the same time, the LBI-GMR is addressing another highly topical challenge: On behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, we are developing a “National Framework for Protection against Violence in Higher Education and Research“, building on a previous status quo assessment.
The “RIGHTSCITIES” project was successfully completed. Since 2024, the cities of Gdańsk, Lund, Sopot, Utrecht and Vienna have worked together with research institutions to strengthen the implementation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights at the local level. The project poroduced outputs such as a human rights self-assessment tool, an online training course and local trainings in all five partner cities.
We have also recently launched our new Instagram profile. There, we provide insights into current research projects, events and the daily life of the LBI-GMR. Follow us on Instagram and stay informed.
