The LBI-GMR represented at the AHRI conference in Lima, Peru

Lima hosted this year’s annual conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI) from September 11 to 13, 2025.

The conference was held under the general theme “Protecting Human Rights from the Global Spread of Organized Crime” and was organized by the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) was represented at the conference by its scientific director, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Lysander Fremuth, and research assistant Mag. Andreas Sauermoser. Under the title “Going Back to Its Roots – The International Criminal Court and Its Role in Combating Organized Crime”, Sauermoser gave a presentation on the role that international criminal law can play in the fight against organized crime. Fremuth also participated as a member of the AHRI Executive Board meeting and was pleased that the proposals for amendments to the statutes, developed by a working group with his involvement, were accepted by the organization’s General Assembly.

Next year’s AHRI conference will be held in Geneva, and the LBI-GMR is pleased to be one of the co-organizers.
