Workshop: “Human rights due diligence obligations in the telecommunications sector”

Researchers from the LBI-GMR presented the results of their research on human rights due diligence obligations at the premises of Telekom Austria AG (A1) and discussed them with representatives of the company.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) conducts research on due diligence processes and human rights obligations of companies in the telecommunications sector. As part of an internal workshop, representatives of the Austrian telecommunications company A1 welcomed colleagues from LBI-GMR on April 25, 2025.

Camilla Haake and Stephen Rabenlehner from the “Sustainability, Development, Economy & Social Affairs” program line (NEWS) presented their research findings and answered questions from representatives of various departments of the telecommunications company on the obligation of companies to respect human rights in their business activities. The researchers discussed, among other things, the importance of human rights guarantees in the work context, fundamental human rights risks in the work of telecommunications companies, and ways to effectively and efficiently implement human rights obligations in already established corporate structures and processes.

The research project (LINK) “Human Rights Due Diligence Obligations in the Telecommunications Sector,” conducted in cooperation with A1 and funded by the company, highlights the human rights obligations of companies operating in the telecommunications sector and supports A1 in reviewing and, if necessary, revising existing internal company documents such as the human rights policy.
