The Istanbul Protocol constitutes a common inter-disciplinary standard of the United Nations and the World Medical Association and contains guidelines for the physical and psychological examination of victims of violence, on the initiation of criminal proceedings after torture or ill-treatment and other respective human rights standards.

The Conference of the Ministry of Health and Women, the University of Vienna and the Faculty of Medicine offers all professional groups an overview on the content of the Istanbul Protocol on the first day of the conference. Stephanie Krisper of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights will present human rights standards and further relevant legal aspects. On the second day, the implementation of the Istanbul Protocol in Austria will be discussed at the Faculty of Medicine.
