Consultation for the Austrian Development Co-operation in the thematic fields of Governance, Human Rights and Securing Peace 2012 – 2016

In 2012, the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) won the tender for a framework contract with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). Its goals are to further root and develop Human Rights, Democracy and Good Governance, as well as Preventing Conflict and Securing Peace within the work of the Austrian Development Agency and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

In 2013 and 2014, the main focus of co-operation was on consultations in the field of Human Rights with an emphasis on gender mainstreaming and the inclusion of persons with disabilities in development cooperation as well as the thematic fields of the rights of the child in development cooperation and on preventing conflict and securing peace.
The handbook “Persons with Disabilities – Inclusion as a Human Right” was elaborated and the focus documents “Children as partners in the Austrian Development Cooperation” and “Women, gender and armed conflicts” were updated and all three were published in 2014. Furthermore the background document “Realising Human Rights of Women Universally: Tackling the Implementation Gap“ was prepared for the international Human Rights conference “Vienna+20: Advancing the Protection of Human Rights“ and the background paper on the “Nexus Energy-Food-Water” was drafted for the Annual ADA Conference 2013. Furthermore the focus in 2014 was on consultations in the field of Human Rights and business (e.g. Human Rights and the development of the private sector, public-private-partnerships). Besides options of cooperations in the legal sector were worked out for the national programme of Buthan and for Moldavia the governance was analysed by the LBI-GMR and external experts.
