JORDAN: Support to the development and implementation of national policies, strategies & legislation related to human rights (Technical Assistance)

About the Project

The overall objective of this project has been to contribute to the strengthening of two local institutions, the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) and Judicial Institute of Jordan (JIJ), the key players for the monitoring and promotion of the human rights protection in Jordan. The project thus contributed to the improvement of the human rights situation in the country.
Specifically, the project provided assistance to the NCHR in the review of its organisational structural, in promoting the incorporation of international human rights instruments and standards into national legislation and in defining the NCHR’s role vis-à-vis the Permanent Committee for Human Rights (PCHR). It also contributed to improving the NCHR’s awareness-raising capacity and to strengthening its awareness-raising mechanism on human rights.
With regard to the JIJ, the project aimed at strengthening the JIJ’s capacity to collect, handle and disseminate information related to human rights and to improve the training activities on human rights for the JIJ’s target groups, mainly the magistrates of Jordan.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental an Human Rights (LBI-GMR) participated in this project as a partner in a consortium led by the ICON Institute and including also the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) and the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC). Its main role has been the provision of training expertise in areas concerning human rights protection, monitoring, and promotion.
