The book is a contribution to the development-policy discussion on the human rights approach to poverty reduction and its formulation and scope. In 2006, the OHCHR finalised guidelines for a human rights-based approach to poverty reduction, the principles of which the book critically examines and thus also fits into the current OECD discourse on the topic.
