A study on the model effect of HPD/CC for international property protection of private individuals

Wars, civil wars, as well as natural disasters, are usually accompanied by flight and displacement and by the destruction of property and shelter, arbitrary expropriation and forced appropriation and occupation of property. The resolution of the property issue in the aftermath of conflict is central to sustainable (social) peace and the rule of law. Settling mass housing, land and property claims, in a fair manner and as promptly as possible, is a massive challenge. Building on the author’s practical experience, this book analyses various approaches to claims settlement as well as novel regularisation instruments, with the aim of determining their model character for international property protection.
