In the first exercise of the work “Europa in der Volksschule. Unterrichtsbeispiele und Projektideen” the children learn about the countries of Europe, their borders and their geographical location using a map. Lesson pictures on Austria’s neighboring countries take up this idea again and allow the pupils to take a closer look at those countries that they may know from vacations or stories. Exercises on European identity, the common European currency and linguistic diversity in Europe offer further opportunities to deal with European topics. A final exercise on the Council of Europe and human rights focuses on the fact that Europe is more than just the European Union.
