“Prison Conditions in Austria” was published as part of a project on the European prison system. The European Prison Observatory is a project coordinated by the Italian Ngo Antigone, with financial support from the European Union’s Criminal Justice Program. The European Prison Observatory examines, through quantitative and qualitative analysis, the state of national prison systems and related systems for alternatives to imprisonment, and compares these conditions with international norms and standards for the protection of the fundamental rights of prisoners.
