On 20. November 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) was adopted by the UN General Assembly and since then has established basic standards for the protection of the youngest members of our society. The violation of children’s rights causes serious consequences not only for those affected, but for society as a whole.

For this reason, particular importance must be attached to this Convention. Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention, Children’s Rights Day will be held at Vienna City Hall to celebrate the existence of the Convention and to bring children’s rights into focus for all. Children, young people and adults are invited to engage with the topic of children’s rights together across the generations.

The festive event in the evening is dedicated to the topic of freedom in the context of children’s rights from different perspectives. Manfred Nowak will present and comment on the results of the United Nations study Children deprived of liberty, Helmut Sax will be a guest at the panel discussion “From the monitored nursery to the climate demo – How free are children today?”.
