HUMAN RIGHTS TALK: “Under construction”: How does the EU grow and develop with the help of the instrument “Twinning” as an area of freedom, security and justice?

When

Thu, 14 March 2019 – 17:30

Where

Haus der Europäischen Union, Wipplinger Straße 35, 1010 Wien

The crisis of the EU and an enlargement scepticism are reported widely and the question is raised: is the project still to be saved? However, there are concrete successful ways of cooperation. Twinning has been an important partnership instrument between EU countries and enlargement candidates for 20 years, also in the areas of human rights, the rule of law and democratization. Successes and challenges of the instrument will be discussed at this Human Rights Talk.

The event is organized by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights in cooperation with the Representation of the European Union.

Keynote presentations by Wolfgang Bogensberger (Head of Political Reporting, Representation of the European Commission in Austria) und Hannes Tretter (Director, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights) will be followed by a storytelling talk with the Twinning experts Karl-Heinz Grundböck (Speaker of the Austrian Parliamentary Administration), Claudia Hüttner (Twinning project manager, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights), Waltraut Kotschy (Data protection expert), Barbara Liegl (Anti-discrimination expert, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights) and Dieter Schindlauer (CEO, ZARA – Zivilcourage und Anti-Rassismusarbeit).

Moderation: Irene Brickner (DER STANDARD).

Kindly note that this event is held in German. Following the discussion, the Representation of the European Union and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights would like to invite you to join the subsequent reception.

The admission is free, for logistical reasons we kindly ask you to register at ovz.bssvpr@havivr.np.ng.
