Invitation for themed event “Challenges & Opportunities in the European Asylum System”
Tue, 14 May 2019 – 18:00 to 21:00
Albert Schweitzer Haus, Großer Saal – Schwarzspanierstraße 13, 1090 Wien
EU member states are bound not only by international refugee law, but also by EU law in the area of flight and asylum. Despite this common normative framework, asylum practices vary widely across EU countries. This can lead to a situation where a refugee seeking international protection would receive asylum in one Member State, but subsidiary protection or even a negative decision in another. Experts on European and Austrian asylum will get to the bottom of these issues during the event and jointly discuss the challenges and opportunities in the European asylum system.
