Kick-off event of Twinning project against homophobia and transphobia in Kosovo
Among others, Vlora Çitaku (Minister for European Integration, Kosovo), Petrit Selimi (Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kosovo), Christof Stock (Head of Operations, EU Office in Kosovo), Habit Hajredini (Director of the Office for Good Governance, Kosovo) and Fiona Steinert (Project Leader from Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights – LBI-GMR) gave speeches, all stressing the essential importance of equal treatment, non-discrimination and inclusiveness for any society in realising human rights.
The meeting preceded this year’s marking of the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia on 17 May 2014. On this occasion, the Kosovo government, civil society organisations, embassies and international organisations have raised the rainbow flag as a symbol of tolerance, diversity and respect for human rights. Additionally, NGOs organised a march through Pristina city centre, comprising 80-100 persons and marking a new form of self-consciousness and visibility for the LGBT community of Kosovo.
