On July 15th 2019, the event Europe and the Rule of Law organised by the association Justizgeschichte und Rechtsstaat under its chairman Friedrich Forsthuber took place at the Justizpalast Wien.

Michael Lysander Fremuth spoke on the importance of fundamental rights and human rights for the material understanding of the rule of law. He reported on current challenges in Europe and on possible responses from both the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Finally, he presented how the application-oriented scientific approach of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights and the Translational Research Cycle contribute to securing the rule of law.
