At the invitation of Romina Plonsker, political spokeswoman for Europe and International Affairs, Michael Lysander Fremuth, Scientific Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR), discussed current human rights issues and challenges with the CDU parliamentary group in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany). The meeting on Thursday, 29 February 2024, also addressed the relationship between human rights and democracy, including the scope for political action and responsibilities.

Human rights translation, i.e. the exchange and mutual enrichment of human rights science with other (socio-)political actors, is of crucial interest for the LBI-GMR. After all, “human rights are not a substitute for politics, they require good politics”, says Fremuth.
