We are happy to welcome Nazarii Stetsyk to our institute.

Dr Nazarii Stetsyk has recently joined the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) as a Guest Researcher and Fellow of the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF). His twelve-month stay in Vienna is also supported by the University of Vienna and the LBI-GMR. We are delighted to welcome Nazarii, who already stayed with us in 2022, back to our institute.

Nazarii Stetsyk is an established Ukrainian legal scholar who specialises in human rights issues and the comparative aspects of case law development. He obtained his doctoral degree from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. For many years, he has taught courses on the theory of law, human rights, and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

In recent years, Nazarii has completed several prestigious foreign internships and scholarships, including the Fulbright Program at the Notre Dame Law School in 2021, the IIE Centennial Fellowship in 2022-2023, and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies Fellowship in 2023. From 2022 to 2024, following the onset of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, he initiated the Invisible University for Ukraine programme on behalf Lviv University and served as the academic coordinator for legal courses in the programme, which was implemented by Central European University.

Nazarii’s research focuses on the development of case law practices in the human rights field and the use of comparative materials in adjudicating human rights cases.
