UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Visits LBI-GMR

Volker Türk met with Michael Lysander Fremuth and Patricia Mussi-Mailer to discuss the importance of research as a basis for well-informed human rights policies.

On 1 October 2024 Michael Lysander Fremuth, scientific director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) and professor of fundamental and human rights at the University of Vienna, as well as Patricia Mussi-Mailer, administrative director of the LBI-GMR, had the honour of receiving Volker Türk, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Madeleine Bebe, Associate Expert at the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, at our institute.

Their discussion focused on the importance of research and its translation into social relevance as the basis for a well-informed human rights policies. Amongst other topics, the human rights experts discussed the weaponization of sexualised violence in conflicts, issues of academic freedom and the importance of human rights for democracy and the protection of vulnerable groups.
