KYRGYZSTAN: In-country research on measures and mechanisms which contribute to preventing torture and other ill-treatment in Kyrgyzstan

About the Project

The Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) has awarded a grant to the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) and their partner the Tian Shan Policy Center (TSPC) – American University of Central Asia in Bishkek to implement the project “In-country research on measures and mechanisms which contribute to preventing torture and other ill-treatment in Kyrgyzstan”. The project is led by Richard Carver, Senior Lecturer in Human Rights and Governance at CENDEP, and part of a three-year multi-country study to determine whether torture prevention works and to determine the factors that reduce the risk of torture.

The in-country research is the main research stage of the project and is carried out by means of comprehensive desk research of international and national reports as well as a series of interviews with key stakeholders in the prevention of torture from the State, civil society and international community.
The conclusions of the project will be published in an edited volume by an academic publisher, with research articles in peer-reviewed publications as the project progresses.
