When:

Monday, 20 November 2023; 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Where:

Ceremonial Hall of the Vienna Directorate of Education; Wipplingerstrasse 28, 1010 Vienna

Young people from the age of ten will present their action plans developed in the research project “Being a Child in Times of Crisis” to children rights experts and political decision-makers on the International Day of children rights.

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR) and the Human Rights Space (HRS) will host the final event of the project “Being a Child in Times of Crisis” on Monday, 20 November 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Hall of the Vienna Directorate of Education.

The project, funded by the Open Innovation in Science Center, focuses on the voices and rights of young people aged ten and older from different realities of life. Children and young people were enabled to become aware of international children’s rights and fundamental rights, and to articulate their experiences, concerns and needs in the current times of crisis. Building on this, the children and young people were supported in developing action plans.

The children and adolescents will discuss the implementation of the action plans with other interested children and adolescents, renowned child rights experts (e.g. Elisabeth Schaffelhofer-Garcia Marquez and Helmut Sax) as well as practitioners in the field of child and youth work and political decision-makers at the closing event. The event is intended to give children and young people the opportunity to discuss their concerns directly with decision-makers and experts and thus assert their right to participation.

The detailed programme (in German) is available in the download area.
