Insights into our research on the rights of people with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities.

The project “Justice for All” focuses on the rights of defendants and detainees with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities. Since January 2022, the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights has been implementing it in cooperation with the following five partner organisations within the European Union: Mental Health Perspective (Lithuania), Antigone (Italy), Peace Institute (Slovenia), and the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund (Germany).

Our research focused on the thematic areas related to deprivation of liberty in the criminal context, including procedural safeguards and accommodations of persons with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities, treatment and conditions during deprivation of liberty, such as alternative measures to deprivation of liberty and probation. Furthermore, we analysed the application/implementation of the EU cross-border proceedings “European Arrest Warrant”, “Transfer of Prisoners”, “Probation and Alternative Sanctions”, and the “European Supervision Order” for persons with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities.

After two years of research, including various national and regional consultations and exchange with experts and relevant stakeholders, we are pleased to present our research findings and our final project outputs.
