Global human-rights-centred perspectives for the digital revolution: Digital Days 2023

Michael Lysander Fremuth discussed central questions of being human in the digital age in his keynote speech and during the subsequent panel discussion.

On 20 November 2023, the panel “Global human-rights-centred perspectives for the digital revolution”, organized by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF), took place as part of the Digital Days 2023 at the Vienna Museum of Technology. Michael Lysander Fremuth, Scientific Director at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Fundamental and Human Rights (LBI-GMR), gave the keynote speech and discussed the human rights perspectives of the digital revolution on the podium.

The panel – consisting of national and international human rights researchers, computer scientists as well as legal and technology experts – dealt with the global validity of fundamental and human rights in the digital age.

At the event, Michael Lysander Fremuth stated on the topic of artificial intelligence: “The protection of human rights agreed by the international community in 1948 is basically sufficient to meet the challenges of artificial intelligence. Individual adaptations are certainly needed, but we should – especially in times of growing polarization and doubts about human rights – hold on to what they once agreed on.”
