Driss El Yazami (President of the National Human Rights Council – CNDH / Conseil National des Droits de l’Homme) and Rupert Joy (Head of the EU Delegation to Morocco) chaired the high-ranking kick-off event held on 12 October 2015. Moreover, the ambassadors of the involved EU Member States and representatives from the partner organisations were present.

Amongst the speakers were Abdellatif Mounir (Project Leader and Executive Director of the CNDH, Morocco), Michel Forst (Project Leader, Commission Nationale Consultative des Droits de l’Homme, France), Patricia Hladschik (Project Leader, Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, Austria) and Laurien Koster (Representative of the Project Leader, Center for International Legal Cooperation, Netherlands). They presented the involved bodies as well as the fields of work and the planned activities of the project.

Within this project, the capacities of the National Human Rights Council are strengthened to support the respect for human rights and the strengthening and stabilization of democracy in Morocco. The competencies of the staff of the CNDH are strengthened on an organizational and thematic level to ensure that the CNDH is properly prepared to exercise its function and responsibilities in the promotion of human rights. During the implementation, around 15 experts from the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights will provide their expertise to the CNDH and undertake consulting, seminars, trainings and study visits together with the Moroccan partners.

The project will run for 24 months in the period between 2015 and 2017 and is funded by the European Union with EUR 1,200,000.
